My multi-day workshops are proper good

I know this because people have said nice things about them. I started them because I wanted to do something to help people prepare for their big multi-day events - things like MDS, Run Brit, Dragons Back - they’re all huge races but you never get the chance to practice sleeping in weird places with weird people, eating the food you’re going to eat, or packing your bag and living out of it. It's one thing sleeping in a tent in your back garden for two nights - but you’re in your back garden. Coming away for a few days to run, chat, learn and ask a billion questions is the best possible way to prepare for this stuff. This year I have three workshops weekends - details below!

Bangin’! Can I just buy a place?

Afraid not. If you are interested in coming along, there is a short application process. This is to make sure that I get the right mix of people and that you all get the most out of the workshops. And to stop dickheads turning up. The workshops are designed around you and your fellow participants. All of them are different. Maximum capacity on all workshops is ten people.

what to expect

All of the workshops take place in beautiful places with beautiful people. I recommended people get there on the Thursday evening so we can get login first thing Friday morning! You’re free to go Sunday lunchtime.

Accommodation is usually a youth hostel or bunk house, and for some of the workshops you will also have the option of camping - which is great if you’re on a DBR or Cape Wrath type adventure. You will be well looked after for breakfast, but you need to provide your lunches, dinners and snacks as you would on event. This is a chance to test those expedition meals! This experience is supposed to mirror your muti-day ultra experience so there will be some elements that make it less fun than it could be - early mornings, random bags checks and mandatory kit checks mainly. I want this to closely mirror those days away from home whilst also being a great learning experience.

Included in the price is three nights accommodation (Thurs-Sun) in shared dorms/bunks, breakfast every day, three guided trail runs (length dependant on the workshops but usually between 7-10 miles) four 90 min workshops across two days, sports massage, yoga for runners (Wales), navigation training (Peaks), medical workshop (Devon), unlimited access to guest speakers and experts across the weekend, one to one time with me and specific focus time with the group to work on issues or problems you want to improve on. I have found the social time with other participants is also key to this experience - you all learn so much fro each other - its incredible stuff and you’ll have a really good laugh as well as working hard.

WHAT sort of experience do i need?

Next to none or absoloutely loads - we cater for everyone. We really can cater for all abilities - the runs can be made shorter if you’re injured or don’t want to run as far as everyone else. We have a run leader and a sweeper - nobody gets left behind and all runs are done at social pace. Every single person is welcome here. I vet each client before sign up so there is no ego, no competition and no showing off. We are all equal in this space. I want everyone to feel safe, heard and like they matter. Even if you are injured before the workshop, you can still come along and benefit massively - we’d love you to crew the run and still take part in the learning side of things. This is not a running weekend - it is a workshop weekend. If you’re not running, you’ll still get loads out of it.

WHAT SORT OF STUFF DO YOU COVER IN THE WORKSHOPS?

Workshop content is totally down to what you want, and is designed around the group. Examples of workshops I have done in the past on these trips include

How to train the ultra brain

How to pack for a multi-day

Preparing for your first multi-day

This is how we crew it - pacing and crewing workshops (ideal for non runners!)

Kit - the do’s, the don’ts and the utter fails

What they don’t tell you about multi-days

You are enough - overcoming the brain demons

Food glorious food - nutrition 101

Choosing your first multi-day ultra

What does success mean to you? Reframing your why.

Anything else you can think of.

You can’t run these on your own….who else is there?

Damn right I can’t. Usually have a little crew with me that changes on each workshops - Lorna Spayne is staple, as she is my right hand woman and sports massage expert but otherwise its a revolving door of experts - all of them extremely experienced ultra runners, race directors, medic, navigators - you’ll be in good hands whatever workshops you come to!

This sounds amazing! Take my money! (Sorry how much money actually is it?)

Hold your horses, keen bean. Workshops cost £450pp which is a total bargain for what you get. If you want to reserve a place, drop me an email and I will send you a link to an online application form - it only take 2 mins. Once you’ve filled that in and had a chat, we can take it from there. To secure your place you will need to pay a non-refundable (but transferrable) deposit of £150 and you will receive and invoice for the balance of the workshop 6 weeks before the workshop takes place.
